BIOGRAPHY
John Mayall, (born 29 November 1933) is an English blues singer,
songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, whose musical career spans over
fifty years.
In the 1960s, he was the founder of John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, a band which has included Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, Peter Green, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood, Mick Taylor, Don "Sugarcane" Harris, Harvey Mandel, Larry Taylor, Aynsley Dunbar, Hughie Flint, Jon Hiseman, Dick Heckstall-Smith, Andy Fraser, Johnny Almond, Walter Trout, Coco Montoya and Buddy Whittington.
Mayall's father was Murray Mayall, a guitarist and jazz music enthusiast. From an early age, John was drawn to the sounds of American blues players such as Leadbelly, Albert Ammons, Pinetop Smith, and Eddie Lang, and taught himself to play the piano, guitars, and harmonica.

Mayall spent three years in Korea for national service and, during a
period of leave, he bought his first electric guitar. Back in Manchester,
he enrolled at Manchester College of Art (now part of Manchester
Metropolitan University) and started playing with semi-professional bands.
After graduation, he obtained a job as an art designer but continued to
play with local musicians. In 1963, he opted for a full time musical
career and moved to London.....

⬇️John Lee Hooker⬇️
John Mayall & the
Groundhogs
JLH-1972-With John Mayall &
the Groundhogs @320
John Lee Hooker would make
several more trips to Europe
throughout the 1960s. On one
tour he was placed with John
Mayall's Bluesbreakers as a
backing band, but this did
not seem to fit John's style
too well. He met a guitarist
named Tony McPhee, whose
band The Groundhogs had been
named for a Hooker
composition, "Groundhog
Blues". The band proved to
fit well with Hooker and
they worked behind him on
several of his British
visits. An album was also
released entitled, "The
Groundhogs With John Lee
Hooker And John Mayall"
(1972, Cleve Records).
So ?? Tony McPhee or John
Mayall ?? Who knows ??

Thanks for the John Mayall shares
He was the first performer to turn me onto the blues
Lucky to have seen him a couple of times
Regards
Pareil, John Mayall m'a fait découvrir le monde du blues en 1972, sur un magnéto communiste, en Pologne ! Lui doit une fière chandelle...
Evolution logique : blues anglais, blues noir américain, jazz...
Autre évolution : CD, vinyles et enfin les 78t originaux. Que du bonheur !
Merci pour tout le boulot, respect.
Bien cordialement.
Discographie très fournie, merci beaucoup !
One of the best Xmas presents i got when i was a kid was a big box set of john mayall. I still have it. great to be able to download and fill in some blanks. Do you by any chance have John Mayalls double lp compilation"Looking Back" that was released in Germany. I did have it but I lent to a gorgeous bird who left in the sun on a window sill and it came back warped. Que sera sera
My first concert was John Mayall during the USA Union tour in '71. They shared the bill with Johnny Winter And. I decided that was what kind of music I wanted to play. I've been playing guitar my whole life. A few years ago I took my son to hear him at a small club in Seattle. We actually talked to him for a few after the show! Thanks for your site and the posts!
I've seen him perform live 3 times. First in early 70s. He had Freddie Robinson on guitar, next in mid 70s when he had Hi Tide Harris & Larry Taylor in the band, last time was early 2000s, with Buddy Whittington on guitar. I had tickets to see him in April 2020 with Caroline Wonderland on guitar but covid ruined that.
Mayall on the record with john lee hooker and groundogs does not play. Publisher's mistake or made to sell some extra copy. It would be nice to insert all three historic shows cds and home recordings released on Private Slash label (time capsule etc.). Thanks.
@Chris-France Thank-you very much. Here is 24 Discogs for John Mayall.

Merci merci pour cette discographie quasi-complète du grand John Mayall, il manque toujours la grosse compil "First Generation 65-74" avec ces concerts inĂ©dits... peut-Ăªtre pour 2023?

Thanks Chris for the new additions to the John Mayall shares, he was my first introduction to the blues as a very young boy.
Chris I hope your health is holding up and your work on this site is the real deal.
