Robert “Bob” M. Riedy February 6, 1946 – October 26, 2020

Originaire du Wisconsin, Robert Michael Riedy s’installe à Chicago à la fin des années 1960. Inspiré par Otis Spann, il prend des leçons avec Erwin Helfer. Il commence à se produire sur la scène blues locale avec son propre groupe, tout en accompagnant sur disque et sur scène les bluesmen locaux et en organisant des shows pour eux.

Il apparaît ainsi en 1973 sur l’album “Gold Tailed Bird” de Jimmy Rogers publié sur Shelter, ainsi que sur des enregistrements de Mighty Joe Young, Carey Bell (les faces de l’anthologie “Living Chicago Blues”), Eddy Clearwater, Jimmy Johnson et Johnny Young.

Ce dernier appartient d’ailleurs pendant plusieurs années au groupe de Riedy, qui publie deux albums dans le courant des années 1970 sur Flying Fish et Rounder. En parallèle, Riedy organise de nombreux shows dans les clubs du North Side – Biddy Mulligan’s, Wise Fool’s Pub, The Peanut Barrel – pour les artistes dont il s’occupe au sein de RMR Productions, parmi lesquels figurent Otis Rush, Carey Bell, Lonnie Brooks, Eddy Clearwater et bien d’autres.

À la fin de la décennie, cependant, il s’éloigne du monde musical pour devenir comptable dans l’entreprise familiale, tout en se produisant de façon occasionnelle. En 2009, il accompagne ainsi son vieux camarade Eddy Clearwater pour une séance produite par Bob Corritore dont un extrait apparaît sur l’album “Harmonica Blues” de celui-ci.

Au milieu des années 2010, une anthologie d’enregistrements réalisés lors de shows organisés par ses soins au cours des années 1970, “Bob Riedy’s Chicago Blues Shows of the 70’s”, avec des titres de John Littlejohn, Johnny Young, Jimmy Rogers, Carey Bell, Magic Slim et Eddy Clearwater, est parue sur son propre label, Chicago Sound Recordings, ainsi qu’un double CD d’enregistrements live de son propre groupe, mais l’absence de distribution en rend l’accès fort aléatoire.

Climax Blues Band (originally known as The Climax Chicago Blues Band) is a British blues rock band. The band was formed in Stafford, England, in 1967 by vocalist and harmonica player Colin Cooper (1939–2008), guitarist and vocalist Pete Haycock (1951–2013), guitarist Derek Holt (b. 1949), bassist and keyboardist Richard Jones (b. 1949), drummer George Newsome (b. 1947), and keyboardist Arthur Wood (1929–2005).

In 1972 the group shortened its name to Climax Blues Band. The band has released at least 19 albums and had a Top 10 hit in the UK with "Couldn't Get It Right". That song and "I Love You" were also hits in the United States; "Couldn't Get It Right" reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1977, and "I Love You" peaked at No. 12 in 1981.

Jones left the group in 1969 and Holt began playing bass. The band switched labels to Harvest Records in 1970 and subsequent records had a more rock-oriented feel. John Cuffley replaced Newsome in 1971.

Albums issued in the 1970s include FM/Live (1973), a double set recorded at a concert in New York, and the studio albums Stamp Album (1975) and Gold Plated (1976), featuring the single "Couldn't Get It Right". In the 1970s, the band's concerts in the US were attended by up to 20,000 people. By 1981 the band was moving towards a pop-rock sound. Holt and Cuffley left in 1983.

A previously unknown recording of a live performance was released as Climax Blues Band/World Tour 1976 by the Major League Productions (MLP) record label.

The album Sample and Hold was recorded for Virgin Records in 1983 by Haycock, Cooper, and Glover, with a rhythm section composed of the session musicians Dave Marquee and Henry Spinetti. A follow-up album was in the works, but Cooper bowed out, citing personal reasons. Haycock went on to record several solo projects, the first of which was the album Total Climax, with his band, Pete Haycock's Climax; this band toured extensively in Europe, including Communist East Germany, and conducted a well-received tour in Australia. After that, Haycock was asked by his former Climax Blues Band manager, Miles Copeland, to record an instrumental album, Guitar and Son, and the live album Night of the Guitars (from the tour of the same name) for the I.R.S. No Speak label.

After that tour, Haycock teamed up with the guitarist Steve Hunter and former Climax Blues bandmate Derek Holt to record the album H Factor. He was later recruited by Bev Bevan to become a member of Electric Light Orchestra Part II and recorded and toured with that group from 1990 onwards. He also started his film score career at this time, playing the lead on Hans Zimmer's score to Thelma and Louise. He also performed on the Night of the Guitars tours, which included Holt on bass, keyboards and occasional vocals.

Holt wrote "I Love You", one of the Climax Blues Band's biggest hits. It is included on the Climax Blues Band double album, 25 Years 1968–1993, released by the German label Repertoire in 1993. "I Love You" still gets over 20,000 radio hits a year in the US and was used in Finn Taylor's 2002 film Cherish and in Kevin Smith's 2008 film Zach and Miri make a Porno. In 1983 Holt joined drummer Brendan Day and Nektar guitarist Roye Albrighton to record an album under the name Grand Alliance for the A&M label.

In 1985, Cooper and Glover recruited guitarist Lester Hunt, drummer Roy Adams, and original member Derek Holt to record the Climax Blues Band album Drastic Steps, and this line-up toured in support of the album in the UK, Europe, and America. The new line-up soon became established with Cooper, Glover, Hunt, Adams and Neil Simpson in the early 1990s, releasing the live album Blues from the Attic in 1993 and Big Blues in 2004.

Colin Cooper (born 7 October 1939) died of cancer on 3 July 2008, at age 68. He is survived by his wife and two children. He wanted the band to continue, as the other musicians had all been long-serving (Glover since 1980, Adams and Hunt since 1985, and Simpson since 1991). Cooper was replaced by singer and saxophone and harmonica player Johnny Pugh, who retired in 2012, and was replaced in turn by vocalist Graham Dee and saxophone player Chris Aldridge. Pete Haycock died on 30 October 2013, at age 62.

Currently, the band continues to tour without any remaining original members.

The Fabulous Thunderbirds are an American, Grammy-nominated blues rock band, formed in 1974.

After performing for several years in the Austin, Texas blues scene, the band won a recording contract with Takoma/Chrysalis Records, and later on signed with Epic Records. In 2011, they signed with Severn Records.

Their first two albums, released in 1979 and 1980 with Kim Wilson's lead vocals and harp, Jimmie Vaughan as lead guitarist, Keith Ferguson on bass guitar and Mike Buck on drums, initially sold poorly, but are now regarded as significant blues recordings.

The Thunderbirds' blues style mixed Texas blues with the harmonica laced swamp blues sounds of Slim Harpo and Lazy Lester — both of whom the Thunderbirds covered. The band's third album, Butt-Rockin', released in 1981, took the band closer to old rhythm and blues and added additional musicians playing piano and brass.

Although the Fabulous Thunderbirds had become favorites of fellow musicians — opening shows for the likes of The Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton — and had been critically well-received, the band's records did not sell particularly well. Chrysalis dropped the band following the release of T-Bird Rhythm, leaving the band without a contract for four years....

Lil' Ed Williams (born April 18, 1955, Chicago, Illinois, United States) is an American blues guitarist, singer and songwriter. With his backing band, the Blues Imperials, slide guitarist Williams has built up a loyal following.

Williams and his half-brother James "Pookie" Young, received childhood encouragement and tutelage from their uncle, J.B.Hutto, and by 1975 the half-siblings had formed the first version of the Blues Imperials.

A decade later and Alligator Records offered them the chance to record for a forthcoming compilation album. In the event they cut a full album's worth of material that was released as Roughhousin' (1986). They then appeared at music festivals and toured widely.

Their second album release was entitled, Chicken, Gravy & Biscuits (1989), and their third LP, What You See is What You Get was issued in 1992. At this point the group disbanded, while Williams issued two solo albums; Keep On Walking, followed by Who's Been Talking (1998), the latter with Willie Kent.

In 1999 the release of Get Wild marked the group's reunion, and has been followed in subsequent years with Heads Up (2002), Rattleshake (2006), and Full Tilt (2008).

In June 2008, Williams and the Blues Imperials appeared at the Chicago Blues Festival. The same year Williams guested on Magic Slim's album, Midnight Blues. In June 2009, Williams appeared as a guest on the radio quiz game show, produced by Chicago Public Radio and National Public Radio, Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!

In 2013, Lil' Ed Williams and the Blues Imperials were nominated for a Blues Music Award in the 'Band' category. They were nominated in the 'Band of the Year' category again in 2014.

Roomful of Blues is an American blues and swing revival big band based in Rhode Island. With a recording career that spans over 40 years, they have toured worldwide and recorded many albums. Roomful of Blues, according to The Chicago Sun-Times, "Swagger, sway and swing with energy and precision".

Since 1967, the group’s blend of swing, rock and roll, jump blues, boogie-woogie and soul has earned it five Grammy Award nominations and many other accolades, including seven Blues Music Awards (with a victory as Blues Band Of The Year in 2005).

The Mojo Blues Band is a blues band from Austria which was formed in 1977 by guitarist Eric Trauner and pianist Joachim Palden. The name of the band is derivated from "mojo", a talisman in the voodoo cult.

The founders of the band played before 1977 in clubs of Vienna. In 1977 Palden won a boogie woogie contest. The first prize was a record contract. They decided to form a band, which they named "Mojo Blues Band". The line up was :

• drums Bobby Sperling

Being the only blues band in Vienna they were often booked as backing band for blues artists who were touring in Austria. They played for example with Johnny Shines, J. B. Hutto, Charlie Musselwhite, Louisiana Red, Sunnyland Slim, Champion Jack Dupree, Homesick James, Honeyboy Edwards, Leon Thomas, Katie Webster, Hal Singer, Jan Harrington and Eddie Clearwater. They also played together with Axel Zwingenberger. 

1980 they teamed with Dana Gillespie and changed their style more to Rhythm ´n Blues.

At the early 1990s their song Alligator Walk became a hit in the US Shag 8 a special dance) scene. Following this they toured North- and South Carolina.

1989 they visited Chicago and came back with 16 hours material they have recorded with musicians from Chicago. The CD "The Wild Taste of Chicago" was made out of this tapes.

1993 Christian Dozzler left the band to form his own group. So Eric Trauner had to learn playing the harp.

2001 the band played her last concert consisting of :

The North Mississippi Allstars were founded in 1996; a product of a special time for modern Mississippi country blues. RL Burnside, Jr. Kimbrough, Otha Turner and their musical families were at their peak; touring the world, making classic records and doing the all-night boogie at Jr's Juke Joint and Otha's BBQ Goat picnics -- the music and the culture rich as the black Mississippi dirt.

Brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson soaked up the music of their father, Jim Dickinson, and absorbed the North Mississippi Blues legacy while playing and shaking it down at the juke joints with their blues ancestors.

Luther (guitar and vocals) and Cody (drums and vocals) joined up with bassist Chris Chew to form the core of their own band, The North Mississippi Allstars. Through the filter of generations of Mississippi Blues men, the Allstars pioneered their own blues-infused rock and roll and continue to do so.

The band hit the road with the release of their first record, Shake Hands With Shorty, Grammy-nominated for "Best Contemporary Blues Album." Bringing their hill country blues-infused rock and roll to stages all over the country and the world (including multiple tours in Europe and Asia), the Allstars quickly gained a loyal fan base, and to date have released six full-length albums. Electric Blue Watermelon, their newest release and third album to receive a Grammy nomination, embodies the Allstars' own sound. At the ripe old age of 17 Mike Onesko left his native Fairview Park Ohio for the greener pastures of San Francisco with just $60 and his guitar he hitchhiked his way across country till he arrived in S.F.

Upon arrival he formed a power trio called Sundog and started exploring his musical journey playing long jams and heavy sabbath type riffs. Next was Steelwind a five piece outfit with keyboards, That featured John Warmouth on drums and Walker Kaeck On vocals. They Headlined at Kezar Stadium just three years after Led Zeppelin played there!

The Kwik and Three Man Army were next and they opened for many acts such as Robin Trower, Montrose, Nazareth, Great White, Mitch Ryder, Clarence Clemons, Mike was discovered in the clubs of Marin County California by Shrapnel records President Mike Varney!

They formed the Blindside Blues Band with Scott Johnson on guitar, Jeff Martin on drums and Gregg Chaisson on bass guitar. They put out three records with this lineup. Although Gregg played on the records he never did any live shows with the band! That duty was filled admirably by Kier Staeheli. The last Shrapnel lineup for the Blindside Blues Band was Mike Onesko, Mike Varney, Aysnley Dunbar, James Lomenzo.

Mike produced and played on Cream of The Crop a tribute to Cream where he produced and performed with Pat Travers, Leslie West Tim Bogert, Rick Derrigner, Glenn Hughes, Neal Schon and many more! Mike went on to Comet Records in Italy to record many great records such as Mike Onesko's Guitar Army, Smokehouse Sessions, Live At The Torrita Blues Festival, Italy and Voodoo Crossing and Gypsy Blood both hendrix tributes.

Recently, Mike and The Blindside Blues Band just completed their new release with the help of many friends! Davey Pattison, Mike Varney, Derek Reeve, Barry Prior, Jeff Martin is back in the fold! Those lineups included Emery Ceo current Blindside Blues Band Member Emery Ceo ranks as one of the great unknown drummers of all time. Combining great jazz improvisation with the killer rock chops to balance it out!

The Cadillac Kings have got it all - A guitar player whose T-Bone Walker licks and cranky chordings sound as natural as his piercing slashing south Louisiana sound. A harp player who can make it bark and yelp and still get soulful in the solos. A rhythm section that adds a rich lushness to the whole thing. A piano player whose main aim in life is to shorten the gap between New Orleans and Los Angeles, and a vocalist who sounds like he's having a natural ball on each and every tune.

So he should, Mike Thomas had a hand in writing almost every song except Jack Dupree's "Shake Baby Shake" and Gary Potts' two stonkin' harp instrumentals. Thomas writes some good stuff - from the laid back growl and easy rolling beat of "Trick of The Blues" to the hard drivin' R'n'B of "Watch Yourself Brother" and the sly Louis Jordan-ish "Who's Bin Lickin' My Chicken?" And who could resist the wry observational humour of the unconvinced partner of someone on a keep fit kick on "Exercisin' Baby"?

I don't know where "Highway 17" is and I've no intention of going there. The lyrics describe it as a pretty mean, evil and scary place and Gary Pott's harmonica, laced with those snakey Rice Miller wahwah patterns, adds to the menacing atmosphere. "Throwing A Dragnet is the ideal vehicle for pianist Mike Adcock to let rip with some New Orleans rhumboogie patterns and for drummer Roy Webber to kick in with some dangerously accurate drumming while Gary Potts turns into Slim Harpo on the harp solo.

Yes, these boys know how to do it right - they know how to design a good sleeve and they're even pretty snazzy dressers too. The Cadillac Kings are deservedly one of the biggest bands on the British blues scene. You loved their previous release 'Lou-Ann' on Flathead Records (FRCDV8). You're gonna love this one too!

Dr. Feelgood are a British pub rock band formed in 1971. The band's name derives from a slang term for heroin or for a doctor who is willing to overprescribe drugs.

It is also a reference to a 1962 record by the American blues pianist and singer Willie Perryman (also known as "Piano Red") called "Dr Feel-Good", which Perryman recorded under the name of Dr Feelgood and The Interns.

The song was covered by several British beat groups in the 1960s, including Johnny Kidd and The Pirates.

Hailing from Canvey Island, Essex, they are best known for early singles like "Back in the Night" and "Roxette". Although their most commercially productive years were the early to mid 1970s, they continue to tour and record to this day.....

The Five Blind Boys of Mississippi was an American post-war gospel quartet. They started with lead singer Archie Brownlee, their single "Our Father" reached number ten on the Billboard R&B charts in early 1951.

John Fogerty's goal for the line, "Rollin', rollin', rollin' on the river," in the song "Proud Mary" was to evoke male gospel harmonies, as exemplified by groups such as the Swan Silvertones, the Sensational Nightingales, and the Five Blind Boys of Mississippi.

The group originated in 1936 as a quartet of students from the Piney Woods School near Jackson, Mississippi. The students — Brownlee, Joseph Ford, Lawrence Abrams, and Lloyd Woodard — originally sang under the name "the Cotton Blossom Singers", performing jubilee quartet and secular material, to raise money for the school. Their teacher, Martha Louise Morrow Foxx, helped organize the blind singers at the behest of the school founder Laurence C. Jones. On March 9, 1937, Brownlee and the others recorded sacred tunes (as the Blind Boys) and three secular numbers (as Abraham, Woodard, and Patterson) for Library of Congress researcher Alan Lomax.

After graduation in the early forties, they began performing professionally singing pop music as the Cotton Blossom Singers and religious material under the name The Jackson Harmoneers. They were often backed by a female jazz band which originated from the same country school known as "The International Sweethearts of Rhythm." In the early 1940s, Melvin Henderson, also known as Melvin Hendrix, joined the group making them—like many so-called quartets—actually a quintet.

In the mid-1940s, Brownlee and the others relocated to Chicago, and changed their name to the Five Blind Boys of Mississippi. Under the influence of R.H. Harris of the Soul Stirrers, Brownlee moved away from the jubilee style of singing and towards a more popular hard gospel style. Even though Harris' influence was persuasive—the Blind Boys at first covered Soul Stirrers songs almost exclusively—Brownlee's high voice, which could move from a sweet croon to a devastating scream, was one of the most recognizable in gospel. Though blind from birth, he would also sometimes leap from a stage into the audience below .

With the addition of hard gospel shouter Rev. Percell Perkins (1917-2003) (who replaced Henderson), the Blind Boys moved into their period of greatest fame. Perkins, who was not blind, became the group's manager, and they began to record, first for Excelsior in 1946, then for Coleman in 1948. Ford was replaced by another blind bass singer who later regained his sight and had to leave the group. He was replaced by J.T. Clinkscales, in that year, and in 1950 the group moved to Peacock Records where they recorded the hit "Our Father" at their first session.

And over the course of 10 years the Blind Boys recorded such hits as "Old Ship Of Zion", "Coming Home", "Will Jesus Be Waiting?", "Song Of Praise", "I Wonder, Do You?", "In The Wilderness", "I Never Heard A Man", "Let's Have Church", "Leave You In The Hands Of The Lord", and "Someone Watches". Brownlee died of pneumonia while touring in New Orleans on February 8, 1960, at the age of 34, and not long after Perkins left as well to go into the ministry.

Brownlee was, at first, replaced by Roscoe Robinson and, after Robinson left the group to go out on his own, by the very able lead Henry Johnson, who, like Brownlee, made devastating screams. Quartet veteran Willmer Broadnax took the position of second lead. He was later replaced by Willie Mincey. Broadnax, in particular, had a high voice which was comparable, in some respects, to Brownlee's. Other singers who worked with the group for a time included Rev. Sammy Lewis, Rev. George Warren, James Watts, and Vance Powell.

By the end of the 1960s, the group had released 27 singles and 2 albums for Peacock. In the 1970s and early 1980s, they recorded some material for Jewel, and they continued to tour into the 1990s. Of the three remaining members of the original group, Lloyd Woodard died in June 1973, Lawrence Abrams passed on in August, 1982, and Henry Johnson passed on December 10, 1999.

The Five Blind Boys of Mississippi should not be confused with The Blind Boys of Alabama, a group led by Clarence Fountain. There is some dispute as to which of the two groups was named first. Some sources say that the Five Blind Boys took their name when Percell Perkins joined them in the mid-1940s.  BIOGRAPHY 

Javier Vargas was born in Madrid shortly after his parents had left Buenos Aires where they had migrated some years before. Nine years later, the family returned to Argentina and it is there where Javier started playing the guitar.

His first musical influences can be traced to Argentine rock of the late 60’s and early 70’s, bands such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Cream, Rolling Stones, The Doors, and musicians like Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana or B.B.King, who are powerful sources of inspiration still today.

In the 70’s, Javier decided to go to the U.S to study music. He lived in Nashville, Tennessee, and in Los Angeles, he played in clubs and took part in recordings as a session guitarist. Each night he played in jam sessions with American and English artists and met important musicians like Alvin Lee, Roy Buchanan, Canned Heat, who also influenced his style.....

Big Al and the Heavyweights originally formed in 1996 as the Unknown Blues Band, with founding members Al Lauro, Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers Band and Gov't Mule), and pianist Rick Gergen (Sweethearts of the Rodeo).  Although, Warren is no longer in the band , Big Al has formed a solid array of musicians and has consistently toured and been featured at venues and festivals throughout the US. The band has released six critically acclaimed CDs of original roots music.

Recently, their original compositions "Bound By Love" and" World Full of Trouble" hit 1k plays on Apple's iTunes.  The current  band features Louisiana Music Hall of Fame piano player vocalist, Wayne Lohr along with guitarist vocalist extraordinaire Marcel Anton and solid bassist vocalist Mark Parsons.  

The latest  CD  "World Full of Trouble" (Ellersoul Records) is the band's 7th CD release, and includes several guest artists, such as famed Muddy Waters guitarist Bob Margolin, and New Orleans guitarist, John Lisi from Delta Funk. Big Al and the Heavyweights also welcomes back former Heavyweight and harmonica virtuoso, Jason Ricci.

"World Full of Trouble" was recorded at famed Suite Mix Studios in Slidell, LA noted for Funky Meters guitarist Brian Stoltz's numerous recording projects. The CD charted at # 10 on the Living Blues Charts and was frequently played on XMs Bluesville.

Big Al and the Heavyweights'  live performances are family oriented, energetic and most of all fun. This is a show you don't want to miss!
