The Smoke Daddy Band takes its name from the small but hip barbecue and
blues joint on Chicago's north side where they've had a standing gig since
1997. Guitarist, harp player and vocalist Billy Flynn and his brother,
bassist Mike began playing many years ago as The Blues Express. Billy has
since been a guitarist with both Otis Rush and Jimmy Dawkins' bands and is
a former member of The Legendary Blues Band. Steve Cushing host of a long
running syndicated radio show 'Blues Before Sunrise', has kept time for
Magic Slim, Big Wheeler and Smokey Smothers among others.
Harp Player Dave Waldman has been associated with Tail Dragger for many
years and rhythm man Illinois Slim has served guitar tenures with Tail
Dragger, Smokey Smothers and Kansas City Red, among others. Each has over
25 years of playing straight up post war Chicago blues, in fact Cushing,
Slim and Waldman have worked together as the Ice Cream Men for twenty
years backing up John Brim, Big Smokey Smothers and others. Jesse Scinto,
a variable one man horn section, is a frequent guest with The Smoke Dady
Band.
