Imagine Elmore James backed by Booker T and the M.G.’s, and you’ve imagined something like the Juke Hounds: bluesy, funky, soulful—and just a touch modern. The Juke Hounds have played this brand of blues--their brand—in northeastern Ohio clubs, and on festival stages including the 2009 Canton Blues Festival, and the ’09 and ’10 Kent Blues Festivals.
They have opened for national acts including Johnny Winter, Michael Burks, Junior Brown, and Shannon Curfman. In November 2010, they won the band category at the Cleveland Blues Society's 2nd Anuual Blues Challenge, and thereby earned a trip to play in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennesse, where they played in February of 2011. They will release their initial CD in ’12.
When the Juke Hounds play, they throw a blues party. Theirs is, writes Writers With Spark, “blues that uplifts, empowers, and strengthens the soul, ” and they show a commitment to “writing and performing blues songs with sharp hooks .”
